Take What You Want, Pay What You Can event helps farmers, those in need in Duryea [Video]

DURYEA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Take What You Want and Pay What You Can event is helping farmers and those in need in Luzerne County.

Dozens came out to support local agriculture at the Duryea VFW Post 1227, all part of the Food Dignity movement.

Locals could bring bags and load them up with produce ranging from fresh cucumbers to lettuce while paying what they could afford.

The event was sponsored by Risk Strategies Joyce Insurance Group and gives farmers the opportunity to show off their work and homegrown produce.

“The Take What You Need Pay What You Can farm stand is really an opportunity for everyone in the community to come on out and have access to our local PA-grown produce we have a great selection today,” said Food Dignity Official Amanda Gordineer-Ferry.

The event is also made possible by state grants and donations.
