Vice President Kamala Harris’ new running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, is leaning into his Midwestern roots as the new Democratic ticket looks to beef up support in key battleground states. Ohio Sen. JD Vance, former President Donald Trump’s pick for vice president, used a similar strategy during dueling events in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania this week. The focus further underscores the importance of the so-called “Blue Wall.” Trump won all three states in 2016, but President Joe Biden took them back in 2020 to win the White House. Polls in these states are too close for comfort, and on Wednesday, so were the candidates. The campaigns nearly crossed paths at an airport tarmac before holding separate events in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. “The path to the White House runs right through this state, and with your help, we will win in November,” Harris told the crowd in the Badger State. …
