Midtown businesses facing issues after homeless camp relocates to 33rd Avenue spot [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – After the city cleared Fairbanks Street last week of homeless residents camped out on the road, those living there have now moved to an area on 33rd Avenue near Moose’s Tooth.

The relocation is causing various issues for Midtown businesses, according to adjacent business owners.

Rod Hancock, the owner and founder of Moose’s Tooth, said that after the population moved, several businesses were immediately facing issues of additional crime and violence.

“It’s impacting our business … our staff are more scared, our customers are commenting and everyone’s being harassed,” Hancock said.

In his more than 28 years of experience, Hancock says he’s never seen the issue of homelessness impact his business on this level.

“We’re having food stolen out of our to-go areas, we’re having customers harassed at 3 in the morning when our closers are leaving the building, they’re scared to go to their cars, so this is not really an environment conducive to running …
