FHP: Crawfordville 12-year-old and woman killed after losing control of SUV during stormy weather [Video]

DIXIE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – A Crawfordville woman and child died Sunday after their car crashed into a guardrail Sunday evening, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

A 38-year-old woman and 12-year-old boy were killed in the Dixie County wreck just before 9:30 p.m., according to a press release from FHP. A 14-year-old male was also seriously injured in the wreck, FHP said.

The tragic wreck happened on U.S. Highway 19 near the Dixie and Taylor County line, north of 483rd Avenue near Steinhatchee Falls.

Early findings indicate the wreck happened because of slick roadways and bad weather, per FHP. Outer bands from Hurricane Debby began unleashing rain and wind on the Big Bend late Sunday.

“Witnesses stated it appeared as if the vehicle lost control due to the inclement weather and wet roadway,” the FHP statement said.
