For a brief moment following his first round submission loss to Michael Chiesa in Abu Dhabi, it looked like Tony Ferguson might finally retire. The 40-year-old “El Cucuy” is 0-8 over the past four years and simply hasn’t looked the same since a bad beating at the hands of Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. But Ferguson continues to believe he can turn things back around, and confirmed he wasn’t ready to stop competing.

He discussed the latest loss at the UFC on ABC post-fight press conference and how nerves hurt his performance.

“Felt super slow going in, fighting for hands when I went for wrestling,” Ferguson said. “I felt sick, I threw up probably like three to four times being nervous as f—k.
