Tri-State P.E. teacher arrested on child porn charges will remain in custody, judge rules [Video]

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A Greater Cincinnati teacher charged in a child pornography case will remain in custody, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

Mark Altherr, 44, will be held in isolation, the judge also determined.

Altherr, who is facing charges of possession and distribution of child pornography, was a fitness education instructor at Delshire Elementary School, according to the Cincinnati FBI.

He was hired by the Oak Hills Local School District in 2019 and is currently on administrative leave.

FOX19 NOW first discovered federal court documents filed against Altherr on Tuesday.

An affidavit states that Altherr was part of an online “pedophile community” where around 100 members would post and exchange sexual materials involving children and minors.

During the FBI’s investigation, they noticed Altherr was not at his home on Friday. When they pinged his cell phone, they located him in Columbus. Agents eventually found him later that evening with a minor female in a hotel room, the affidavit said.
