HS students learn more about local government through Mayor’s Youth Council | Indiana [Video]

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Before Thursday’s Terre Haute City Council meeting, Mayor Brandon Sakbun met with his newest group of young advisors.

Throughout the school year, high school students on the Mayor’s Youth Council will serve as advisors and learn more about local government.

Thursday, the mayor introduced himself and his expectations for the Council.

Terre Haute North Senior Claire Jensen hopes the Council helps improve her leadership skills.

“The youth have a big voice in the community, and I think being able to be part of something that is somewhat changing with the high schools by being involved is very cool,” said Jensen.

Jensen says she’s glad to be part of like-minded peers who want to get involved.
