Activists speak up on the importance of voting in Memphis, TN [Video]

To make sure that doesn’t happen during the August 1, 2024 election, community groups like Memphis For All, The Equity Alliance, Leaders of Color, Black Voters Matter, NAACP, Stand for Children, SisterReach and MICAH gathered Wednesday to tell voters that too much is at stake to not show up. 

“We need people to understand decisions that are being made on the local level and the state level impact your life every day,” said Memphis For All Political Director Tikeila Rucker.   

Rucker said she and others want to sound the alarm over how important local elections are, especially considering the recent low voter turnout during the early voting period.

“We’ve talked to over 6,000 voters around the primary elections and the school board elections and we are learning that many of them are feeling apathetic about it, not feeling like their vote matters,” said Rachael Spriggs of …
