PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Prairieville High School Hurricanes has a new gameday character, a Great Blue Heron.

According to a news release, the character was created by the school’s leadership team after getting feedback from incoming students and the community.

Prairieville High School Principal Randy Loving said the heron is nicknamed “Gumbo” and will “bring the Prairieville High School Hurricanes brand to life.”

“Herons are symbols of strength and resilience, often seen standing tall and composed in various environments. This will mirror the Hurricanes’ tenacity and determination on the fields and courts,” Loving said.

The news release said “Gumbo” will usually be seen in a custom mascot costume. The new gameday logo is part of several custom-designed logos for Prairieville High School and is trademark registered with the Louisiana Secretary of State.
