OAKRIDGE, Ore. — Numerous wildfires are burning near the community of Oakridge, with even more burning across the state of Oregon. The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team 1, based out of Colorado, is managing the over 3,000-acre Chalk Fire along with six others in the area.
Over the past few days, local and non-local fire crews have been focusing on getting an estimated five miles of roadway cleared of potential fire fuels. To do so, crews have been combing through the dense forest and burning off brush, branches and shrubbery along the roadway.
Michael Evers is the Division Supervisor leading team one of his unit. Evers said that for three days straight, the fire crews he is overseeing have been burning off fuels along the roadway.
