Patriots WR Javon Baker aims to live up to self-made expectations [Video]

FOXBOROUGH – Jerod Mayo had a simple message to Javon Baker after the Patriots drafted him – prove yourself.

After the team selected the wide receiver in the fourth round, Baker was so excited that he gave a wild press conference, saying, “Bring your popcorn. I make people in wheelchairs stand up.”

Mayo wants his players to have a personality and speak freely, so he wasn’t upset, but when he talked with Baker, he explained that if he was going to talk like that, he needed to back it up on the field.

“Once he puts it out there, he has to show it every day out here on the football field,” Mayo said in May. “If not, he’s just a talker and you start to lose the respect of the locker room and things like that. So, he said it, he put that out there, and now you have to show us.”
