Possabilities in Rochester shares importance of American Disability Act Anniversary | News [Video]

ROCHESTER, Minn. – On July.26 1990 President George H.W. Bush signed the American Disabilities Act (ADA) into law which prevented discrimination for disabled people. 

Possabilities Marketing Director Stacy Shones says they have life enrichment classes where they help get disabled people out into the community to do community service and fishing. She says it’s important to get disabled people out.

“Being in one set place or one set space maybe we’re not learning all the abilities that we need to learn so being out in the community and engaging with people bringing the community in emphasizes those skills and adds more skills,” said Shones.

While the ADA has improved hiring they say disabled people are four times as likely to face unemployment than the general population. When it comes to employers Shones say it’s important they understand …
