AN URGENT warning has been issued over a life-threatening disease that is difficult to notice as health experts encourage people to “trust their instincts”.

The Health Service Executive issued the major warning in relation to sepsis – a serious condition in which the body responds improperly to an infection.

Sepsis is a life-threatening complication of an infection and it can occur in all ages, even babies and children.

Taking to social media to warn people, they said: “Anyone with an infection can get #sepsis. It can be life-threatening. Don’t miss the signs.”

One in five Irish people who develop the condition die from it.

Fever is the symptom most associated with sepsis but can be easily confused with other conditions.
