MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC)- Berkeley County held an informational workshop on Thursday for developers who were interested in their new homeownership development program.
This initiative helps fund construction costs for affordable housing projects in Berkeley County and is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program.
The county is expecting to receive funds from the HOME program every year moving forward.
In total, Berkeley County has received over $1.5 million in HOME funds:
- In 2022, they received $698,313
- In 2023, they received $496,905
- In 2024, they received $393,852
Grant Program Specialist for Berkeley County Sandra Osborne is excited about this new initiative.
“We are trying to get the HOME program up and started in Berkeley County, so we wanted to get our developers out, let them know what the eligible uses would be, how they can apply, what they could use it for,” Osborne says.
