A recent mosquito sample collected in Worcester tested positive for West Nile virus, according to city officials.

The sample was collected at Rural Cemetery on Grove Street, city officials said in a press release. At this time, no human cases of the virus have been detected, and Worcester’s West Nile virus risk level remains low.

Even so, the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP) has scheduled a pesticide application at Rural Cemetery and on several surrounding blocks for Thursday, July 25, after 8:30 p.m., city officials said. As the map below shows, Institute Park will not be sprayed at this time.
