McLean County Animal Controls new facility offers more space for rescues [Video]

MCLEAN COUNTY (25News Now) – The furry friends at the McLean County Animal Control (MCAC) are getting a new home.

Tuesday morning, the organization announced it is building a new facility. Dozens gathered to break ground on the new facility.

The update comes after many years of problems plaguing the old building, including flooding and outdated features.

In 2023 alone, the organization had 608 dogs and 649 cats in its care.

“First responders for the animals that are within our community that are in need, so they come to us,” said MCAC Director Marshell Thomson. “We first try their owners and do a reunification process.”

McLean County started the project about a year ago. The new facility will be able to hold about 54 dogs and 73 cats at once, but that does not account for new kittens and puppies born at the facility.
