GBI arrests North Carolina man in child molestation investigation [Video]

Donathan Shelton, 32, of Sylva, North Carolina has been charged with and indicted on two counts of child molestation and two counts of sexual battery.

TOWNS COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested and charged a North Carolina man with child molestation and sexual battery.

Donathan Shelton, 32, of Sylva, North Carolina has been charged with and indicted on two counts of child molestation and two counts of sexual battery.

On April 29, 2022, the Towns County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia requested the GBI to assist in a child abuse investigation, according to a press release.

Shelton was arrested in North Carolina for charges stemming from a Jackson County, North Carolina, case. On October 24, 2022, he was indicted by a Towns County Grand Jury. A bench warrant for his arrest was issued.

Once Shelton was released from jail in North Carolina, he was extradited to Georgia and booked into the Towns County Detention Center on July 18.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
