Weather alert issued for strong thunderstorms in Wilcox County Sunday evening [Video]

The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 6:18 p.m. on Sunday for strong thunderstorms until 6:45 p.m. for Wilcox County.

Residents may experience wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

“At 6:17 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm 10 miles northeast of Pine Apple, or 17 miles southwest of Mosses, moving northeast at 25 mph,” states the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”

The weather service states, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.”
