Baltimore Orioles select UVa’s Griff O’Ferrall in MLB Draft [Video]

For the second straight year, Virginia baseball has produced a first-round Major League Baseball Draft selection.

On Sunday night, Cavaliers shortstop Griff O’Ferrall was chosen 32nd overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the opening round of the event, which is being held in Fort Worth, Texas, as part of MLB’s All-Star Game festivities. The 32nd overall selection was one of two Prospect Promotion Incentive choices during the first round.

“I know if I just keep my head down, work hard and also learn from the people around me, then I think the career can go as far as possible,” O’Ferrall said earlier this year about his potential as a pro.

The Prospect Promotion Incentive Pick — new in 2024 — was earned by the Orioles for Gunnar Henderson winning the American League Rookie of the Year Award last year.
