Shocking video shows dock fire dangerously close to Staten Island Ferry boat Dorothy Day

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Stunning video obtained by the Advance/SILive.com shows a dock ablaze next to the Staten Island Ferry boat Dorothy Day.

The fire broke out early Friday morning at Slip 1 at the St. George Ferry Terminal. It was quickly extinguished by ferry workers before FDNY units responded to the scene.

“We appreciate our ferry workers’ quick response to put this fire out. The Dorothy Day and Slip 1 remain safely in service, without experiencing any significant damage,” said Vincent Barone, press secretary for the New York City Department of Transportation.

A video shared with the Advance shows the dock ablaze and workers using hoses to douse the flames.

The DOT said that there were no passengers aboard the berthed Dorothy Day at the time of the blaze. The boat was in service on Friday.
