Though far away, West Virginia community pulls together to Save the Bay [Video]

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. (DC News Now) — Protecting the Chesapeake Bay has been a priority in the Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania regions for some time.

Now, with federal support and passionate community interest, folks in West Virginia’s Shepherdstown are doing their part.

Martinsburg book, writing club know how to beat the heat

Sue Kemnitzer is active in her local church, St. Agnes Catholic, and understands the need to clean up the bay.

“Storm water from our streets and town go into the Potomac. So we are part of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem,” she said.

The town qualified for federal storm water management grants and funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to enhance green planting in the community.

“These projects are great for the environment but they also create jobs. And they enhance the livability of the community,” Megan Diehl with the Chesapeake Bay Trust, said.
