Outgoing West Coast coach Adam Simpson admits there are “mixed emotions” about his departure but says he doesn’t think players weren’t shocked when told his decade-long tenure had come to an end.

The Eagles hit the training track moments after the club announced it had parted ways with the 2018 premiership coach and later filled a press conference fronted by Simpson, CEO Don Pyke and Chair Paul Fitzpatrick on Tuesday.

There were no tears shed by the playing group, who instead laughed and cheered as Simpson fired a parting shot to the media and delivered self-deprecating jokes in what could be his last address as Eagles coach.

Asked how players handled hearing the news, Simpson conceded the players were aware the writing was on the wall following just eight wins from his past 65 games, including five consecutive losses.
