RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – An advocacy group is more than halfway to meeting its goal of allowing community members to vote on the Vision Fund process in Rapid City.

Members of the South Dakota community advocacy group ‘Liberty and Justice For All’ held a petition signing event on Saturday.

The petition is to oppose the Rapid City Council’s changes to the Vision Fund process and to put the issue on the November ballot.

The group claims the changes will shift money allocations from projects like the development of the arts to public utility projects such as road maintenance.

In addition, they are concerned the new ordinance would limit citizen input into how the Vision Funds should be used.

So far, the group says they have more than half of the 2,752 signatures needed to get the issue on the ballot. The group estimates they still need one thousand signatures.
