Prepare for strong thunderstorms in Clarke County Sunday evening [Video]

The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 6:52 p.m. on Sunday for strong thunderstorms until 7:30 p.m. for Clarke County.

Residents may experience wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

“At 6:52 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm 9 miles east of Coffeeville, or 9 miles west of Grove Hill, moving northeast at 15 mph,” states the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”

The alert is for Thomasville, Coffeeville and Fulton.

The weather service comments, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.”
