Dickinson County officials discuss excess lake water; area residents voice concerns over more flooding [Video]

DICKINSON COUNTY, Iowa (KTIV) – A meeting over what to do about high water levels in the Iowa Great Lakes got heated, and brought out residents from across Northwest Iowa Sunday.

It was a packed house Dickinson County Courthouse as attendees spilled out of the Community Room and down the hallways for a joint meeting between the Dickinson County Board of Directors, and the Dickinson County Emergency Management Commission.

The meeting was called to discuss lake levels on the Iowa Great Lakes, but the conversation drew a crowd from several surrounding communities. Dickinson County residents shared their concerns of property damage and sewage being dumped into the lakes.

While those outside of the Iowa Great Lakes argued that any action made to drain water off the lakes could have a catastrophic impact to communities who have already been devastated by heavy flooding.
