University of Lynchburg sophomore Mei White, already a decorated swimmer, won gold and clocked a personal best in the 100-meter breaststroke finals at the U.S. Paralympics Team Trials in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Thursday.  

She is headed to Paris for the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games, to be held August 28 through Sept. 8. 

On Thursday, White entered the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:31.79. The transfer from Athens, Georgia, then posted a PR of 1:30.19 to win the event. 

Last November, White — whose right leg was amputated above the knee because of a birth defect — captured a pair of medals in breaststroke and freestyle events at the Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile, for the second straight year. She competed in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Games, placing fifth in the first heat of the 100-meter breaststroke and posted the 11th best time overall at the event.
