City of Birmingham condemns apartment units after two weeks without power [Video]

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Can you imagine going without power in your home with the heat we’re feeling this summer? It’s a reality people living in an east Birmingham apartment complex are having to navigate with no real solution in sight.

The property manager for Twin Gates apartments says it’s thanks to a fire in one of the units. That fire knocked out power for 10 units in total, and there’s no telling when it will come back on.

As the summer days grow hotter and hotter, Lawrence Green’s patience gets thinner and thinner.

“I’ll just have to make it do what it do man,” he said in frustration as he recalled the last two weeks in his apartment without power.

“I been spending so much money in these past few weeks trying to live, trying to maintain my living situation, living out my car, staying with people, which I’m very appreciative …
