Charleston gears up for 2024 Sternwheel Regatta [Video]

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – From July 3-7, downtown Charleston will feature musical performances, street vendors and a July 4 firework display at the 2024 Sternwheel Regatta.

Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin said one of the largest events in the region has thousands of moving parts.

“Our work actually for the 2024 Regatta started the last day of the 2023 Regatta, that’s how long it takes to prepare and plan.”

Charleston is expecting visitors from far and wide, making safety an important factor when planning.

“Twenty percent come from a 50-mile radius and beyond, so we have so many families coming from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. and Charlotte, North Carolina. We have to make sure that our visitors who are coming in, know how to get from point A to point B.”
