LaFrance announces pick for Anchorage police chief [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Anchorage Mayor-Elect Suzanne LaFrance on Tuesday morning announced a big change in city leadership.

According to a press release from LaFrance, Deputy Chief Sean Case will be the next chief of the Anchorage Police Department, ending the speculation over former Chief Designee Bianca Cross’s chances of being confirmed as head of police. The Assembly had postponed Cross’s confirmation hearing, which was set for earlier this month.

Outgoing Mayor Dave Bronson named Cross as chief designee days ahead of the mayoral runoff election in April. Former chief Michael Kerle officially stepped down on April 30.

“Public safety is the number one job of local government, and a responsibility that I do not take lightly. With the significant public safety challenges Anchorage is facing right now, we need a Police Chief with extensive APD leadership experience.
