Montgomery mayor names interim police chief, public safety advisor [Video]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The City of Montgomery named a new interim police chief and appointed a special advisor to the mayor for public safety.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed named James “Jim” Graboys as Interim Chief of the Montgomery Police Department during a press conference on Tuesday.

The announcement comes 68 days after former MPD Chief Darryl Albert’s resignation.

Graboys is a familiar face in the Capital City. He previously served 20 years at the Montgomery Police Department before leaving in 2011 to establish Alabama State University’s Violence Against Women program. He was named Chief of Police at ASU the following year and served in the role until 2019. He has been serving as a senior compliance specialist with ALEA since then.
