Metallica & Lowes Home Improvement to fund supplies for construction programs at Western Dakota Tech [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Western Dakota Technical College received funding for supplies in various construction programs in the 2023-2024 school year from a source you might not expect – Metallica. The metal band launched the Metallica Scholars Initiative in 2019 as a part of their charitable foundation, ‘All Within My Hands.’ In 2023, Western Dakota Tech became one of 41 community and technical colleges receiving $100,000 grants from the foundation.

“They started this Metallica Scholars Initiative to dignify the trades, to draw attention to them,” said Western Dakota Tech Director of Industry Relations & Grant Management Chandra Calvert. “And so, we think that if a band like Metallica believes in our students and the programs that we have, then everybody should too. They should come here and study a construction related program.”
