FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – The interior is facing poor air quality as a result of the wildfires, and the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital (FMH) has opened two clean air respite rooms for community members struggling.

Determination has been made by The Fairbanks North Star Borough’s emergency management team that the smoke may impact sensitive groups. Those in the Fairbanks area included in the sensitive groups are those living with asthma, chronic respiratory disease or are elderly.

The air respite rooms contain high-capacity HEPA filtered air scrubbers and tables with chairs. The rooms are located in the Chandler and Kiewit rooms on the first floor of FMH. The rooms are available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Friday.
