Eight firefighters with the Orange County Fire Authority were injured in a crash in Irvine on Thursday night.
It happened around 6:50 p.m. on the northbound 241 Toll Road. The crews had finished a 12-hour shift tackling the Airport Fire, according to Chief Brian Fennessy during a press conference on Friday.
A car in front of a transport truck reportedly swerved to avoid a ladder in the road, but Fenessy could not confirm that. The transport truck swerved and rolled before slamming into the right-hand guard rail.
Six of the firefighters were reported to be in moderate to critical condition. Two firefighters had minor injuries. Fennessy said during a press conference on Friday morning they were taken to Hoag Medical Center where they were treated and released on Thursday night.
