6 cats killed, house deemed total loss after Canton fire [Video]

The fire department said the house is a ‘total loss’ and will need to be razed.

CLEVELAND — The Red Cross is assisting three people after a house was destroyed in a fire in Canton early Thursday morning. 

According to a press release from the city’s fire department, crews responded to a one-story home at 1623 Alden Ave. Southwest at 2:10 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find the building “heavily involved with fire.” 

One woman was in the home when the fire started and was able to quickly escape the flames before firefighters arrived. 

Firefighters initially tried to fight the blaze from inside the house but were forced out as the building began to become structurally compromised. Crews protected surrounding houses until the fire was contained.

Six cats were killed in the fire, the fire department said. 

The Red Cross was alerted to assist the woman and two male residents. No firefighters were injured.
