SAN DIEGO — Tuesday marked the 50th anniversary of the purchase of Cowles Mountain, the most popular hike in the City of San Diego.

This effort led to the preservation of the land and its securement for public use, laying the foundation for Mission Trails, according to the Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation.
“Cowles Mountain symbolizes our City’s commitment to preserving natural beauty and outdoor spaces,” District 7 Councilmember Raul A. Campillo said. “The 50th anniversary is a celebration of those who protected this landmark, and a call to action.
