46 confirmed dead in NC from Helene, 30 in Buncombe County [Video]

The storm devastated Asheville, Black Mountain and several other towns.

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — CBS News has reported that 46 people have been confirmed dead in North Carolina as a result of Helene. Across the country, more than 100 people have died.

During a press conference Sunday afternoon, Buncombe County officials confirmed that at least 30 people in the county have died because of Hurricane Helene.

Helene swept across western North Carolina on Friday, bringing heavy rain and winds that led to widespread flooding in the state. Some areas suffered minor damage, while others have been almost completely wiped away.

There are still over 100,000 without power in Buncombe County, according to ReadyNC.gov.
