29th Street bridge over I-83 near Harrisburg to close on July 8 [Video]

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that the 29th Street bridge spanning Interstate 83 near Harrisburg is scheduled to be closed for replacement.

Weather permitting, the bridge will be closed the night of Monday, July 8, a press release said.

It is expected to remain closed until Nov. 12, 2025.

Truck, car and pedestrian detours will be in place during this long-term closure. Cars will use Derry Street, 19th Street and Paxton Street. Trucks will use Derry Street, Eisenhower Boulevard and Paxton Street.

The detour for pedestrians will use Derry Street, S. Paxtang Avenue/City Park Drive, Parkview Lane, 32nd Street and Sycamore Street.

Night work will begin Sunday night, July 14. The contractor will remove the beams and deck on the section of the bridge that spans Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. There will be lane closures in both directions of I-83 in the area of 29th Street. This …
