Officials encourage people to check ice conditions as the temperatures warm up.
CHETEK, Wis. — Two people were rescued after they fell through the ice with a UTV on Wednesday night, according to the Barron County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies responded to a 911 call at about 7 p.m. near the Pokegama Boat Landing near Chetek, Wisconsin. By the time deputies arrived, the two people had been helped out of the water by a family ice fishing nearby, according to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department.
A 25-year-old man was treated and released at the scene and a 53-year-old man who was driving the UTV was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the press release, both men were from Chetek.
