15-year-old suspect shot by Memphis police now charged with aggravated assault [Video]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A 15-year-old who was wounded in a shooting by Memphis police is now charged with aggravated assault.

The shooting happened on July 26 when officers responded to a theft call on South Goodlett near Arrowhead Road.

When officers approached the vehicle, the driver sped off.

After a brief pursuit, three teenage suspects exited the vehicle ran.

MPD says two of the boys were taken into custody at the gas station. The other boy who police say was armed ran down Winchester Road.

MPD Assistant Police Chief Don Crowe said in a press conference: “For circumstances and reasons still under investigation, as the officer was trying to apprehend that suspect, he discharged his weapon, striking the suspect.”

The 15-year-old remains at the hospital but is now charged with aggravated assault, theft of property and evading arrest on foot.
