11-year-old in critical condition following Canton house fire [Video]

CANTON, Ohio — City officials confirm an 11-year-old girl was badly injured in a Canton house fire that took place Friday evening.

According to a press release, the blaze broke out within the 900 block of 3rd Street Northwest just after 7:45 p.m., with authorities reporting “heavy fire” coming from the second story of the home. After firefighters were unable to reach the child by going up the stairs, they used a ladder to get inside, and found the girl in an upstairs bathroom.

The child was removed from the house and rushed by ambulance to Aultman Hospital before being airlifted to Akron Children’s Hospital. Per officials, she is currently in critical condition.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The department says two dogs, a pig, and a bird were also removed from the residence alive.
