11-year-old girl taken off life support, dies after Canton house fire: Chief [Video]

CANTON, Ohio (WJW) – An 11-year-old girl was taken off life support, and has now died, about one week after she was hospitalized in critical condition following a house fire in Canton, according to officials.

“The child never regained consciousness and was removed from life support,” said Canton Fire Division Chief Steve Henderson said in an updated press release. “She passed away with her family at her side.”

On Friday, July 12, crews were called to the burning home in the 900 block of 3rd Street NW shortly before 8 p.m. by a passerby that reported flames coming out of a two-story home.

Fire crews arrived and found heavy fire coming from second story windows. The girl, identified as 11-year-old Harmony Fowler, was rescued from a second-floor bathroom and transported to Akron Children’s Hospital in critical condition, said officials.
