10-year-old made false Alabama school shooter call, police say [Video]

COOSADA, Ala. (WSFA) – A report about an alleged active shooter on Wednesday sent Airport Road Intermediate School in Coosada into a lockdown. Police say that report turned out to be false, and a child is to blame.

The call came in shortly after 3 p.m., while students and staff were still on campus with after-school activities. Coosada police say a thorough search revealed no threat, and the lockdown was lifted.

Police say school staff reported that they had not heard any gunshots in the area, further confirming there was no danger.

Thursday morning, Coosada police, in collaboration with the Elmore County Board of Education, identified a 10-year-old as being responsible for the false report. Police say that child and their guardian fully cooperated with the investigation.

A petition was filed in the Elmore County Juvenile Court to charge the child with a misdemeanor charge of falsely reporting an incident.
