Pecos City Manager Charles Lino updated the public on the train derailment at around 7:30 p.m.
PECOS, Texas — One person is dead and four people are injured after a train derailed and hit the Chamber of Commerce building in Pecos, according to Pecos City Manager Charles Lino during a press conference Wednesday night.
The derailment happened around 5 p.m. after a train struck a tractor trailer near Oak Street and Dot Stafford Street, according to Lino.
Lino said that “three cars” had hazardous material in them. However, everything is contained.
“There has been no release from [the hazardous material from the cars],” Lino told NewsWest 9. “The only release if anything was some diesel from the engine and that has been contained also.”
