1 dead after crash on I-74 in Fountain County [Video]

It happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday near the Montgomery County line, police said.

FOUNTAIN COUNTY, Ind — One person is dead after a crash Thursday afternoon on Interstate 74 in Fountain County.

According to Indiana State Police, it happened around 4:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in the eastbound lanes near the 23 mile marker, which is just west of State Road 25.

In a press release, an ISP spokesperson said a preliminary investigation indicates a pickup truck going west of the interstate apparently lost control, crossed the median, rolled over and collided with a semi-tractor-trailer in the eastbound lanes. The pickup truck became engulfed in flames.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the spokesperson.

The semi driver had to be extricated from the wreckage and was taken to a hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
