WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — One person was taken to a local hospital with critical life-threatening injuries and another had minor injuries after a crash on Deacon Boulevard.

The Winston-Salem Police Department said two people were traveling on foot, trying to cross Deacon Boulevard.

A 2000 Jeep Wrangler was traveling east in the left lane on Deacon Boulevard when the vehicle struck both pedestrians.

Nathaniel Hairston, 83, has critical life-threatening injuries, according to police. The other pedestrian, Edward Oliver, 78, had minor injuries.

Police said the driver, Shawn Bobbitt, stayed on scene and assisted deputies with the investigation.

The crash temporarily shut down part of Deacon Boulevard in Winston-Salem, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department. The road has since reopened.

Based on a map provided by Winston-Salem police, the incident appears to have occurred out front of the Last Resort Bar at 513 Deacon Boulevard.
